This book is AMAZING. It's beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional, full of hope and love, and I just LOVED it.This is a non-shifter, mpreg, ABO'verse type of story, the first for this author (although, not the first mpreg by any means, if you haven't already - her Bear Mountain series and the spin-offs are a MUST read) and I love the framework established and world building she has created here. In this world, there are alphas, betas, and omegas - and they are all rigidly put and then kept in their places through living quarters, available jobs, and society. Omegas have few rights other than being baby-makers, and alphas have ALL the rights.Gray is an omega in his mid-thirties, who has never met his alpha. He now has to raise his nephews (who are all omegas as well) after his brother and his mate pass, and he's unsure of how to make ends meet. Surrogates are used when alpha and omega couples can't have children, (although there are still stigmas attached to this as well) but Gray thinks that this might be his best, and only, option, despite his oldest nephew Avery going out to make his own way in the world.Jamie is an omega who desperately wants a child - but his battle with cancer has left him unable to have children. He searches for a surrogate, and finds the perfect one in Gray. I loved his friendship with and love for Gray. They quickly became the best of friends - brothers - and I loved how much they came to care for the other.Rohan, Jamie's alpha, wants the very best for Jamie. He'd do anything for him, so he reluctantly agrees to the idea of having a surrogate to give them a child. But then the feels start - and Rohan questions everything - how can he have his omega, Jamie, and also have feelings for Gray? Why would Jamie be OK with that?I don't want to give too much away, because I don't want to ruin the reading experience for anyone. I will just say - this was an incredibly emotional journey for these three men and their families. Get that box of tissues ready, and I rarely cry reading books. I loved the relationships and interactions they all had - all the emotions, the want, the love, the pain. It was beautiful.And give me Avery and Wilder! Their story is going to be YUM I expect, and hopefully a bit less teary? I have a soft spot for underdogs and outsiders, especially the solitary ones with amazing inner strengths. And boy, the omega Gray in this book fits that bill perfectly.A chain of events places Gray in the middle of another couple's marriage during a most dramatic time in their life. What ensues is a beautiful life story with tearjerker moments as well as warm, happy ones. The author makes the events and characters feel real and authentic. Besides the lead Gray, I found Jamie in particular such a delight!The majority of the story was a strong 4.5 star read for me. For some reason the main character's relationship arc late in the game took a big leap, which excluded a lot of steps in the relationship development I normally love to read about. The suddenness left me with a disconnect with the love story the book cleverly had been building up to. I wasn't disappointed with how the story ended, only how the romance was wrapped up.Still, the life story was emotionally magic and I plan to read the sequel once it's released.
