I was very very interested in the plot of this very short novella, but then I found out, apparently nothing else follows up to tell us (me) what happens later!! I’d like to give the author a 1-Star for THAT! But the point is that this story interested me so much that I WAS upset nothing further was written! What happened is that a huge caldera full of huge, unimaginably dangerous prehistoric reptiles and fish and other things opened up after an underground earthquake, and all these monsters escaped into our oceans. In this novella, people are somehow infected by something a creature spewed out and become extremely violent and full of rage and then they die. Only one person didn’t. The sequel to Kronos Rising and the prequel to Kronos Rising: Kraken… The inbetweenerPlot:Ron, a disgruntled and grouchy paramedic soon has his work cut out for him.After a cruise-liner mysteriously loses a guest to one of the dreaded Kronosaurs’. Said guest’s fiancé is dropped off at the nearest town.She is in shock but there is also something else amiss. Soon, after biting down on Ron’s arm there is an infection spreading and a plague is commencing.Review:So basically, an aquatic take on the zombie apocalypse formula.There are certain things that happen to Ron but I don’t want to delve too far into spoiler territory. Read the book for yourself because I’m glad to say that Max has done it again!While short stories aren’t my favorite read (They’re more of a fun time passer than a story to get greatly invested in for the most part) I can say that Kronos Rising: Plague is a 70-page story that is so worth your time!This is definitely a bunch of really good ideas meshed into one awesome book.We’ve got Cabin fever with an infection that spreads through the victim’s bloodstream like wildfire! Halloween 1 and 2 what with the escaped evil mixed with the hospital setting. And there’s even some Aliens vibe that is emitted from this book with an overall force that is the main source of the problem.Now I am not saying that the author, Max Hawthorne ripped off or took inspiration from any of these ideas. Nor am I saying that this book is exactly like those four movies meshed into one because it’s not.This beast is something else entirely.Gore:While there are some disturbing gross-out moments. There isn’t much carnage to be found in this book. This is sort of a starting point of the chaos which would eventually ensue.Overall Thoughts:Kronos Rising gave readers their first taste and Kronos Rising: Plague gave us a second sample for us to try.At the end of the day it’s not just about the creatures…. It’s also about what issues these prehistoric predators can cause just by being here!Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (No not a 4 out of 5 and not quite a 5 out of 5It’s a short story that is well-written, fast paced and about halfway through carries a level of dread that weighs not only on the characters but the readers sense of hope….
